At IDEXX, we build AI in close partnership with veterinary teams for the real work they do every day. Our goal is technology that plays a trusted role in advancing our shared mission of high-quality patient care. We believe AI delivers lasting value when it is scientifically validated, easy to understand in practice, fits naturally into existing workflows, and grounded in our Code of Ethics. Above all else, care decisions remain in the hands of veterinary care teams, while IDEXX is accountable for the governance, validation, and monitoring of the AI capabilities in the solutions we deliver.

IDEXX AI principles

These five principles guide how we use AI responsibly in the design, development, and deployment of our AI-enabled products and services to support people and strengthen care.

  1. AI supports, veterinary professionals decide | AI supports clinical workflows and decision-making; it does not replace professional judgment. Veterinary care teams remain in control of clinical decisions. 

  2. Rigorously tested and monitored | We develop, validate, and govern AI using rigorous scientific and quality processes appropriate to its intended use. We monitor AI performance and use those insights to improve our solutions. 
  3. Transparency you can trust | We are transparent about when AI is used and the role it plays, as well as its performance, limitations, and intended applications, so AI-enabled insights can be applied with appropriate clinical judgment. Disclosure level is tailored to the use case and applicable requirements.
  4. Protected by design | We design governance and data protection into our AI from the outset, based on risk and use case. Data used to develop and operate AI follows our Data Privacy Policy and applicable legal requirements. We apply relevant, defined data protection, security controls, and governance across training data, operational data, and third-party systems.
  5. Confidence through understanding | We provide our customers and employees with practical guidance on the benefits and limitations of AI in real-world use, supporting informed, confident, and consistent use.
